As part of capacity building program activities in the EACCR2 network, the data management workshop was held on the 28th to 31st of August 2019 in Kisumu, Kenya. The workshop was hosted by the Kenya Medical Research Institute, Centre for Global Health Research (KEMRI, CGHR) based in Kisumu and delivered by Bryan Nyawanda, Sammy Khagayi and Marion Sumari-de Boer.
The workshop outlined a comprehensive collection of practices, concepts, procedures, processes, and a wide range of accompanying systems in data management that allow for a research organization to gain control of its research data resources. The workshop was intended for any person from institutions within the EACCR2 network who works in any facet of data management from the highly technical (e.g. database administrators, programmers) to inform scientists (e.g. data stewards, data analyst, statisticians) and participants with:
• The development, execution, and supervision of data management plans, policies, programs, and practices that deliver, control, protect, and enhance the value of clinical research data and information assets throughout their lifecycles;
• Refresher training on latest data management approaches and methodologies;
• Formation of a network of data managers within the EACCR2 network;
• Ideas for potential grant applications and publications.
Key Takeaway
As data managers our work should not end at handling data processes, we should be able to own and produce scientific research works.
